Ha’aretz News ticker reports:

11:59 Tehran Radio: Osama bin Laden captured on border between Afghanistan and Pakistan (Haaretz)

It was also Tehran Radio who were the first to report that Saddam Hussein has been captured.

UPDATE: A full article in Ha’aretz.

ANOTHER UPDATE: According to Reuters the US Department of Defense is denying the capture.

FINAL UPDATE: Seems like this is utter bullshit. Oh well.

Shit. I knew it. I just knew it. That damn Passion movie isn’t even out until tomorrow and anti-Semites are being spawned and Jew-hatred is spreading like wildfire! Report here.

ATTENTION ISRAELIS WHO NEED TO ROCK!

ATTENTION ISRAELIS WHO NEED TO ROCK!

Kick ass New York indie band Firewater is making an appearance this week in Tel Aviv at Jah-Pan. Firewater was the last show I saw in the states before I headed over to this wonderful land. Their sound is a monstrous amalgamation of sleazy rock, klezmer, brass band and circus music. Lead singer Tod A. tells it like it is with whiskey soaked vocals and an affinity for tales of betrayal and inebriation. Tom Waits fans take note.

I missed them last time they were here…but I already booked tickets for this Circus of the Scars.

Blog Hiatus Ends

I have a problem. Whenever I leave Israel I totally lose my blogging mojo. It happened last spring when I went to the states, it happened when I went to Germany in September and it happened again when I returned last month from another trip to the USA. I don’t know what it is. In any case, I’ve decided to get back to basics and start seriously blogging again. A new leaf has turned. I admit that part of the problem has been my addiction to the new Reality TV channel that I blogged about in January. Also, I bought a multitrack so I have been rocking out non-stop.

I just read a funny book called “How Soon is Never” a semi-autobiographical book by rock writer Marc Spitz (not the swimmer). It’s about a rock writer who tries to get The Smiths back together. It was an endearing read that brought back a lot of fun memories for me as a kid on Long Island who was equally obsessed with bands like The Cure and The Smiths. I spent hours in front of the radio listening to WLIR (the Island’s “alternative” radio station when alternative was really alternative and was referred to as “college rock” and “new wave”). I used to wear black 25/7, combat boots (doc martens of course), had half my head shaved and was of course into “art,” was an academic underachiever and a general problem child. I was a walking cliche’ although at the time I thought I was quite unique. It was quite a wake up call when I went to see The Ocean Blue and The Mighty Lemondrops at SUNY Stony Brook. I think there were about six other people wearing the same Pixies shirt as I was. I think it was 1989. It felt good though to be surrounded by other “new wavers.” I think I saw the Dead Milkmen and Raging Slab that year too. Also, Poi Dog Pondering, but that may have been earlier. I had an awesome denim jacket that I painted three different times. It originally said R.E.M. Murmur and I painted a replica of a poster from a show they did at Tyrones in Athens, Georgia. I then painted the Dead Milkmen’s symbol. At one point it had a big peace symbol (which was outlined with safety pins), but I don’t remember if that was before or after the others. Good times nonetheless.

Hang the DJ! Hang the DJ! Hang the DJ!

Meatball, the beloved dog of Adam Sandler died yesterday of a heart attack. Poor pooch. Sandler obviously loved his dog very much. He dedicated an entire section of his website to him and Meatball was the ringbearer at his wedding.
