I see a lot of things around here that warrant a chuckle.
I always say to myself, “Damn Harry, you should carry your digital camera with you wherever you go.” Luckily, this time I did.
I think I’ll pass on living on what I call “Take My Money” street and shopping at “Shams.”
It’s shame that my battery was dead by the time I got to the “Launbry Place.”
Blogging by Mail 2
Let me just start out by saying how much I love the internet. Samantha of The Samantha Files, who knows me from my participation in last year’s Amateur Gourmet Survivor last year brought the concept of “blogging by mail” to my attention. The concept is simple. Participating food bloggers from all over the world send each other packages. The first round was hosted by Nic over at Baking Sheet and this round was hosted by Samantha. I was really eager to sign up. Ziva and I had a lot of fun putting together a kick ass package for our “buddy.” But you’ll have to wait until she posts about it to learn what we put in.
We recieved a package from Mag and Viv, two friends in Singapore! How cool is that?
The package was extremely well thought out. We recieved a lovely letter detailing the contents as well a bit of culinary history of Singapore. Now on to the goods!
1) Singapore Heritage Food cookbook
A hodgepodge of recipes influenced by Chinese, Indonesian, Indian, Portugese and British cooking. I’ll be making something from it tonight. Semur anyone? That’s a Indonesian version of beef stew for all you non-Singaporians (or those without the Singapore Heritage Food cookbook).
2) Pineapple Tarts (which we devoured this morning)
Described by Viv and Meg as “a local snack served to guests during festivities, especially Chinese New Year and Hari Raya (which means “festival day” in Malay).” Obviously this is apropos, because here in Israel we just celebrated Rosh Hashana, the Jewish new year.
3) Oh no! We ate all the pineapple tarts! What are we going to do? Well, Mag and Viv must have known that we would inhale them so they not only included a recipe for these buttery tarts but also cookie molds so we can make our own! How thoughtful is that?
4) Chicken rice mix - mmmmm
5) Plum sweets - harry loves candy!
6) A jar of Kaya, a delciously rich jam made of coconut and eggs. This included a photo of “kopi” joints that serve bread toasted over a charcoal grill and slathered with Kaya and frozen butter. Mmmmmm.

The new year is always a pain in the ass for me because for the next couple of weeks I’ll still be writing 5765 on my checks.
Yes, I recycled that joke from last year, so fuck off.
Remember that Ha’aretz reporter we had on the show last month? Well, the article finally came out in today’s Rosh Hashana supplement but unfortunately it’s only in Hebrew edition of the paper. But at least you can see what we look like. Not the best picture at least it’s small. I’ll post a translated version later today.
