Israeli Pop Princess

After entertaining troops in an IDF entertainment troop, singing at clubs in Eilat and placing third in Israeli “American/Pop Idol” competition Shiri Maimon has finally staked her claim as Israel’s reigning pop princess (sorry Roni!) this year after placing fourth at the Eurovision song competition and having a massively successful debut album. It’s gone gold and her song Hasheket Shenish’ar was also the most airplayed Hebrew song of the year. I like the rock, but this song, Ahava Katana (A Little Love) has an undeniably great hook. Those are implants by the way, but she denies it.

Jerusalem of Filth

Went to Mike’s Place in J-town last night for a little party for two friends who are headed out to a 4 month jaunt to “the east.” Mike’s Place is now in it’s fourth location and is now located where Jerusalem’s worst dive, The Arizona, was once located. It doesn’t really matter where Mike’s Place is located, the people might change, but the type of people who hang out there don’t. I had to leave early for no other reason than the horrible Grateful Dead covers. It was doing my head in. Fucking hippies. Take a shower, shave and get a job. Jerry’s dead. Move on.

It’s always nice to see fellow bloggers though.

Tens of thousands of folks rallied last night in Zion Square against the evacuation of Amona and the police treatment of the protestors at last week’s “dismantlement.” I’m all for protesting, it’s your democratic right, but clean up after yourselves for crying out loud. As I walked to my car I couldn’t believe the mess that was left behind. The streets were absolutely disgusting. The entire city center was littered with placards, pamphlets and hand outs. I even saw a huge “Free Pollard Now” sign on the ground in the middle of Ben Yehuda street. Don’t you agree that Pollard deserves better than that?

I’m not one for protests - the whole mass conformity thing doesn’t sit well with me, I feel silly chanting, I hate crowds and finding a bathroom is always a problem - so I’m not sure if this post-rally litter is problem after the left-wing rallies in Tel Aviv as well or it’s a just a right-wing Jerusalem thing.

With elections heading into high gear they’ll certainly be more litter all over the country, that’s for sure. But who gives a shit about the environment or the city workers who have to clean up all the trash, right?

I’m a liar

I make a lot of empty promises. I never got around to editing the podcast I mentioned in my previous post. It’s a bit dated so it will probably never see the light of day. Maybe on “The View from Here” boxed set that is slated for release in 2012.
