“The Yes We Can Song”
Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, along with many collaborators have put together a motivational song that was inspired by Barack Obama’s “Yes We Can” speech following the New Hampshire primary. It features, among others, Common, John Legend, Scarlett Johannson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and even Ed Kowalczyk of +Live+ (Obama epitomizes “The Beauty of Grey”, huh Ed? ). Oddly enough, there is some young lady uttering the ancient language of the Jews (that would be Hebrew) at the 1:40 mark. Who is that?
This video has been over five hundred thousand one million times thus far on YouTube since its launch this past weekend.

Got something to say?

“Some young lady” is the amazing Yael Naim. She sings in Hebrew, French, and English and is amazing.
Are you sure that is Yael Naim? Why would she be in a song for Obama? And why wouldn’t she be listed in the credits for the song at dipdive.com?
I was basing that on her appearance and voice; when I last checked dipdive, yesterday morning, the page only contained the embedded video and nothing more. Based on looks it could be Maya Rubin who’s speaking Hebrew.
There is another non-American in the video, so I hadn’t dismissed Yael’s inclusion based on that. (Eshtero is the other.) But based on your comment, I updated the Wiki for this video.
Hi Feygele, thanks.
By deductive reasoning I concluded that Maya Rubin was the Hebrew speaker. However, this leads to one more question. Who is Maya Rubin? According to IMDB she is an actress whose latest gig was a spot on CSI: NY in 2004.
Very good question. My googling turned up the same info, so… Maybe Will.i.am knows something that we don’t?
it’s def Maya Rubin
Hollywood actress, originally from Israel

“Beauty of Grey” huh? Mental Jewelry is such a phenomenal album.
Yeah, a phenomenal album indeed. I knew someone would appreciate the reference! The first time I saw Live they were touring with PIL and BADII. I think it was at either the Roxy or the Academy in NYC. Live was so fresh back then. I need to dig that album up….
It’s Maya Rubin. She gave a kinda long interview to Rafi Reshef on Galei Tzahal last Monday.
That is a very interesting and inspiring song. Obama’s speech was a fantastic speech to make a song about as well.
